Good morning,

A customer of us had its HDI cluster reinitialized. After we ran the Cluster setup wizard from HFSM successfully

(all statusses OK) , we wanted to restore the configuration by running syslurestore.

Although syslurestore was able to connet to HCP and find a backup, it failed with

"KAQM13130-E Processing was canceled because a new installation has not been performed for an OS".

Does sombody has an idea's of what we did wrong? Initial setup has run on both cluster nodes. Cluster setup wizard also completed successfully.

Kind regards, Henk

Hello Henk,

The message may be a little cryptic but it's perfectly reasonable.

You cannot perform any configuration operations after a HDI FOS Initial Install together with a syslurestore. HDI will detect this and then reject any attempt to perform a syslurestore.

What you have done in this instance that has caused the syslurestore to be rejected, since the HDI believes the OS install is not clean, is the Cluster Setup Wizard from within Hitachi File Services Manager (HFSM). This is unnecessary.

To mitigate, please perform a HDI FOS Initial Install on both cluster nodes then perform a syslurestore on each node before attempting to do anything else. The upshot of this is, any previous HFSM connections should be automatically restored rendering the use of the Cluster Setup Wizard as superfluous to the restore operation.

EDIT: also worth mentioning is source FOS version of the backup data on HCP and new install version on HDI must be identical.

Kind regards,

Thanks Peter,

If a customer wants to perform this syslurestore (after CS&S has performed the initial setup), how would they be able to connect to HCP without DNS? GSS/GD could edit the /etc/hosts file, but a customer cannot.

Kind regards, Henk

Hi Henk,

If you mean directly after initial install, that could be tricky if there is no 'real' DNS in the environment. I must admit, I cannot recall if you can specify an IP address instead when performing the command (probably not, see next sentence). As you probably know, HDI does not work without DNS lookup to the HCP under any circumstances (even using a hosts file isn't supported, since this is wiped on reboot, if I recall correctly). So, when you set the management port, make sure you have a corresponding 'A' record in the customer's DNS environment for it.

Kind regards,
