A very simple question. Normally I configure the same size of RAID Groups for a storage tier.  Working with FMD there is a price and size issue for smaller customers and smaller capacities. Are there certain penalties when I would use 2 different RAID group sizes in a pool for example  1x 6+2 and 1x 14+2 RAID6, to come as close as possible to the needed capacity ?

Any thoughts and considerations on this?

Hi,

I have mixed raids group sizes. With a tiering license you could even let the storage system pick whats best for him.

But could offer a diffent configuration. I see it you have got ((6+2)+(14+2))=24 Disc`s.

How about 3x RAID5 (7+1). You then would have 3 parity disc`s and 21 disc`s for you to use instead of only 20 disc`s and 4 parity disc`s. Dont forget that you will also need`a spare disc.
