1-Technically you can do everything with CE. But the question is how easy;

In my point of view Pentaho EE  has 3 killer tool that CE hasn't

Dashboard Designer,

Interctive Reports,

Analyzer

Without these tools you may need somewhat programmer skills like as JQuery, XML, Javascript , CSS , maybe xAction ...

Also you may have difficulty to provide some functionalities that business users claims.

You can check full EE-CE comparision from here: https://partners.pentaho.com/wp-content/uploads/Pentaho-CE-vs-EE-Comparison.pdf

Moreover, Pentaho CE documentation a bit problematic ( Some topics refers to EE not CE)

2-No limitation

3- Yes . In that case no difference between CE EE

Just to be clear, CE version has no equivalent of dashboard designer (aimed at business users) but does have CDE which is aimed at developers building beautiful dashboards.  There may be a plugin from ivy that does something similar but i don't remember.

CE has Saiku which is near as damnit as good as analyzer.

CE also has WAQR plugin on the marketplace, which is equivalent /predecessor to PIR.

Last PCM we had a presentation from SPEC INDIA of their Self Service BI plugin. This is not exactly a Dashboard composer -if I remember correctly it accesses datasources but does not integrate existing CDF reports- but I guess that many times the idea behind Dashboard Designer is to have a mashup with connected (POV) elements.https://github.com/SPECUSA/SelfServiceBI/raw/master/User_Guide-Self_Service_BI.pdf/

Maybe it has more features than needed but I see it's reported as mature release. Here is the link https://github.com/SPECUSA/SelfServiceBI/raw/master/User_Guide-Self_Service_BI.pdf/

Hope this helps

Hi Dan,

I don't find WAQR in the marketplace. I do find WAQE. But it only gets a 2/4 rating. Not too eager to suggest this to my clients... Talking about my clients in this case: hey are really not technical and do need a self-service tool. They have Saiku and they already use the Mondrian cubes through xmla in MS Excel. But they want to make simple lists and interactive reports themselves. (And can't / don't want to write SQL on the database.)

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Sandra
