On May 16, 2019, Hitachi America and Hitachi Vantara held a grand opening to celebrate their new global headquarters, which also serves as the regional headquarters for the Hitachi Group in North America and the global headquarters for the Global Center for Social Innovation (CSI) of Hitachi, Ltd.

The new headquarters is located on the 1.7-million-square-foot Santa Clara Square campus, and features sleek, modern architecture, floor-to-ceiling glass for superior natural light and efficient floor plans for maximum flexibility. The building is also designed to encourage intelligent innovation and collaboration in a number of different environments. It is also the home of the Hitachi Insight Center, Hitachi Vantara’s new state-of-the-art executive briefing center. On-site amenities include The Commons, an open-air gathering place featuring casual workspaces; the Commons Café, an outdoor living room with complimentary Wi-Fi; and KINETIC, a state-of-the-art fitness and wellness center. The strategic location in the heart of the Silicon Valley together with the cutting-edge facilities, will provide a showcase for customers to experience a broad range of technologies from across Hitachi Group companies, and a hub to facilitate collaborative creation with partners and Hitachi Group companies in North America, and the Research & Development Division of Hitachi America.

Helping Hitachi to celebrate were many distinguished guests from government and academic circles, partners and customers, including Consul General Mr. Tomochika Uyama from the Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco; and Mr. John Roos, Founding Partner of Geodesic Capital and former United States Ambassador to Japan, California state senators and Santa Clara City Council members.

Mr. Toshiaki Higashihara, President & CEO of Hitachi, Ltd. kicked off the event with a opening address sharing key points from Hitachi’s 2021 Mid Term Management Plan. This was followed by congratulatory messages from Mr. Uyama and Mr. Roos. Mr. Tom Pyke, district director for Congressman Ro Khanna, then presented a Certificate of Congressional Commendation to Mr. Higashihara to recognize this new office as an outstanding public achievement. The opening ceremony was concluded with a Japanese tradition of kagami-biraki, in which the lid of a saké barrel is broken open with a wooded mallet to symbolize a new beginning. This was followed by an open-house where guests were invited to demonstrations and exhibits of key research activities in Hitachi America R&D labs, and solutions in the Insights Center. The lab demonstrations included Integrated Asset Lifecycle Management, Manufacturing Solutions, Mobility Solutions, Governance with Blockchain, Hitachi Energy Resource, Healthcare Analytics Solutions, Maintenance and Repair Analytics, Operational Optimization and Foresight, where were all very well received by the guests.

The grand opening was concluded with a networking reception where the saké from the kagami-biraki was served to the guests to share good luck.
