Day 1 #OOW16 - Clouds forecast all week in San Francisco

Blog Post created by Peter Gerr (Pete) Employee on Sep 20, 2016

Greetings from Oracle OpenWorld 2016!

Despite the bright sunny skies and unusually warm weather in San Francisco this week, everywhere I look I see clouds.

A friendly reminder that Oracle OpenWorld 16, #OOW16, still the largest tech event on the planet, kicked off Sunday nite with a passionate keynote by Oracle’s Larry Ellison. Hitachi Data Systems, along with Hitachi Consulting are in the Oracle Linux, IoT and Cloud showcases #HitachiOOW.

It wasn’t a stretch to figure out that Cloud would be the focus of Larry’s keynote this year, and that clouds will be lingering around everywhere this week. Oracle themselves have been building up the buzz around their announcements for weeks as customers look to lower the cost of their own Oracle environments, something our DIET utility was designed to help with, and as Oracle tries to compete with AWS, Azure and other public CSPs. Here’s a quick summary of the talk if you’re interested, c/o @TheRegister of what was announced, and some of the more entertaining moments as well.

With all the talk about Clouds, it’s easy to forget what end users @ Oracle OpenWorld are searching through the buzzword fog for – real solutions to real business challenges.

Helping guide our customers through their transformation efforts, from a business and infrastructure perspective, evolving to a cloud model that fits their needs and at their pace, is what Hitachi Data Systems and Hitachi Consulting are focused on this year.

Hu Yoshida published a blog yesterday about how HDS and Pentaho are helping our customers address new opportunities like IoT and Big Data to turn their corporate data into valuable insights, competitive differentiation and ultimately, value for their own customers.

And even though in some circles, the word “Infrastructure” has become verboten, the fact is all businesses, from Uber to my favorite diner, still need technology - it's how you use it that matters. My colleague, Bob Madaio published a great blog on this topic yesterday.

So, please stop by the HDS booth #1901 in the Oracle Linux showcase and see how our Industry and Infrastructure solutions work together to address the biggest challenges (and opportunities) users are facing, helping them execute a Cloud strategy for their Oracle and application environments, reduce the cost of IT, improve business agility, and enable both Digital and Business Transformation.

The HDS team is blogging all week from #OOW16 on the HDS Community Oracle site, so please check in with us often and join the conversation.
