Using HCP and Load Balancers with HDI

  1. You want to configure the HDIs to use an "External IP or Hostname" and input the F5 VIP for that entry.
  2. You MUST ensure that the HDIs only talk to the master HCP for PUTs. GETs can go anywhere.
  3. In a failover you need to ensure that the replica is writeable before allowing HDI traffic to it.
  4. It is entirely possible that if you hide the failover from the HDIs (by using the F5) and some data is lost during the HCP failover, that the HDIs could experience I/O errors for those objects.
