are there any news on supporting SCSI3 reserve guest on vsphere 6U2 with VSP and GAD?
what is current best practise for VSP/GAD if you use vpshere 6U2 and Guest O/S that uses SCSI3 reserve?
vmware fixed this bug
Dang Luong or Paul Meehan or Paul Morrissey - Any thoughts?
SCSI-3 Persistent Reserve is not supported on VMware guests + GAD storage. This is listed in the latest interop table: https://support.hds.com/content/dam/hds/PDFs/interop/VSP%20G1000%20Gx00%20support%20for%20Global-Active%20Devices.pdf .

thank you for your reply but this is not anserw to my question - i know it is not supported i`ll try to be more specific
in hds interop table i see that only vmotion is not supported
vmware official document says: "Restriction: (PGR clustered Guest OS) Due to a bug found in testing we do not support guest OS clusters, like Windows MSCS, Symantec VCS, etc., once a resolution has been found we will update this KB article."
my first question: can i use scsi3 reserve guest on vsphere 6u2 with GAD without vmotion (as states your interop) or i cannot use it at all
my second question: is hds working on repair this bug or is this "by design" and it cant be fixed
I don't understand the relationship between vMotion and SCSI-3 in your first question. vMotion has been supported with GAD for a long time. It's just SCSI-3 is not supported.
As for the second question, let me check with the PM to find out more.
thank you for reply
i'll try to clarify my first question :
in hds gad interopt table vsphere 5.1 and 5.5 are fully supported (non cluster and vmotion)
vsphere 6u2 is supported for non cluster but for vmotion there is a note that "Any Guest O/S that uses SCSI3 reserve is NOT supported"
vsphere vmotion in 6u2 is different from vmotion in 5.1 and 5.5 because it can move Guest O/S that uses SCSI3 reserve (for example microsoft clusters)
reading your interopt table i assume that i can run Guest O/S that uses SCSI3 reserve on vsphere 6u2 but i cannot vmotion them - this will work just like vsphere 5.5 which is supported
thats why i ask this question:
can i use scsi3 reserve guest on vsphere 6u2 with GAD without vmotion (as states your interop) or i cannot use it at all
this subject is very important for me because i use vsphere 6 and downgrading version to match vsp/gad requrements is painfull and unsupported operation
PM said this issue is not permanent and HDS is working with VMware to resolve it.
can you confirm with pm that i can stick with vsphere 6u2 until fix is released? i mean using scsi-3 guests without vmotioning in production environment
i`ll be testing it soon but i'm sure that you have checked it more thoroughly
I'm afraid that VM guests using SCSI-3 are not supported at all on vSphere 6u2 + GAD, even if you don't plan to use vMotion, until a software update (from HDS or VMware) is released.
thank you for your help
i'll be waiting for software update
i was able to aquire more detailed information - the issue is in vsphere 6 not in vsp/gad. vmware said they will fix it to the end of this year but they dont specify any date.
