Digital transformation has brought explosive data growth, and our collective efforts to deal with it, to the datacenter. As our customers look to accelerate their Datacenter Modernization journey, we leverage the Stairway to Value introduced by Shawn in this community blog from a few weeks back. At Hitachi Vantara, our award-winning lineup of All-Flash Array and hybrid flash Virtual Storage Platform (VSP) systems, using our patented FMDs for world-class performance and/or industry standard SSDs, provide the strong foundation for our clients ‘Store’ strategy in block and file-based workloads.

Store is only half of the first step, however. What is often overlooked when discussing a storage modernization effort, or planning for explosive data growth driven by a digital transformation effort, is how will we protect all the fast-growing data in a more modern way.
At Hitachi Vantara, we have a comprehensive approach to modern data protection. From mainframe systems through new Mode 2 or IoT applications, Hitachi Vantara provides unique solutions for protection. From self-protecting file services and natively durable object technology to application integrated snapshots serving operational recovery scenarios, Hitachi Vantara is focused on minimizing RPO (Recovery Point Objective: data at risk) and RTO (Recovery Time Objective: time to recovery) for operational recovery scenarios. Operational recovery is a critical component of protection, but only part of the story. HDID is our orchestration engine for Copy Data Management. It translates Policy into Implementation, providing an easy to understand white-board user interface and an easy to automate, but very powerful REST API. Policies for Recovery Copy Services, Agile Copy Services, and Governance Copy Services can all coexist inside HDID. With robust Role Based Access Control (RBAC) providing separation of duties between backup admins managing snapshots, DevOps DBAs driving refreshes of non-prod environments, and compliance auditors validating Governance Copy creation, HDID is truly an Enterprise Copy Data Management orchestrator.
Critically for our customers, our Store and Protect solutions scale as you grow. In the VSP family, Store begins with the F350/G350 and scales through the F1500, all running Hitachi Storage Virtualization Operating System (SVOS), and all supporting HDID orchestration of Copy Data Management policies.
