The future doesn’t just happen! It’s built by inspired people. Individuals who see the potential in the latest breakthroughs and technologies. And who are prepared to push them as far as their vision and resources allow.
Last month, many of these ‘architects of tomorrow’ gathered in Las Vegas to attend NEXT 2017 – our annual user conference designed to drive the digital revolution. Under the theme of "Lead What's Next," it showcased some of the ideas and innovations that will transform society and shape the world of business. One of the highlights of the event was the keynote by the scientist and acclaimed futurist Michio Kaku, who discussed what the world might look like 20 years from now. The future looks like an exciting place to live and work.
Hitachi Vantara Set to Seize IoT Opportunities in APAC
Of course, the true highlight of NEXT 2017 was the announcement of the transformation of Hitachi Data Systems into Hitachi Vantara.
The new business entity will leverage the broad portfolio of innovation, development and experience from across Hitachi Group companies to deliver data-driven solutions for commercial and industrial enterprises. In effect, it will unify the operations of Hitachi Data Systems, the Hitachi Insight Group, and Pentaho into a single integrated business to build on Hitachi’s social innovation capability in both operational technologies (OT) and information technologies (IT).
Hitachi Vantara underscores Hitachi’s commitment to being a true innovation partner in the era of IoT where everything is connected. The new name also represents our strategy for future growth – giving customers a “vantage point” to uncover new insights in data for a competitive “advantage.” By choosing a name that is not purely descriptive, we intend to build on its meaning as the business grows and plays its own part in creating the kind of future we all want to live in.
The timing is excellent. The market opportunity for mission-critical data solutions has never been greater. According to IDC, IoT market opportunities in Asia Pacific (ex Japan) by 2020 will reach US$583 billion. The fact is that data has become every organization’s greatest asset. It is the key to creating new revenue streams, building better customer experiences, and lowering the cost of doing business – all of which applies just as much to Vantara as it does to our customers.
Smarter = Better
Visitors to NEXT 2017 were also impressed with the innovative industry solutions on display. But, if one thing defines what will make the future a better place than today, it is “smart.”
- Smart Security
- Smart Energy
- Smart Mining
- Smart Transportation
- Smart Data Center
- Smart Transportation
Our customers are also impressed with the innovative industry solutions displayed at the solutions showcase. From the interest during the event and feedback afterwards, it certainly looks like everything will be significantly more intelligent than anything around today.
Making IoT easier
As Hitachi Vantara, we are now heading in a new direction and determined to capitalize on the vast IoT opportunities in Asia Pacific. But we aren’t alone. Enterprises around the world are looking at IoT technologies as a transformative tool to improve operational efficiency and drive innovation. Yet, with all the promise that IoT offers, many companies struggle with complex challenges that prevent them from making the leap.
Those challenges could be a thing of the past following the launch of the Lumada IoT Platform 2.0 at NEXT 2017.
The name Lumada was derived from the words illuminate and data, and Lumada 2.0 is a standalone software offering for IoT developers and architects. It delivers data driven outcomes that increase operational efficiency, greater product quality and innovative business opportunities.
Designed to help enterprises simplify and accelerate their journey to Industrial IoT (IIoT) and Commercial IoT, Lumada is the most composable, flexible, intelligent and secure end-to-end IoT platform. These capabilities are essential for companies interested in creating the kind of innovative solutions that will drive their business through the digital transformation and into the future.
Making it happen
As the world is being transformed by digital tools and processes, NEXT 2017 and future iterations are an opportunity to bring it all together – for exponential business impact and the betterment of society. It’s an exciting time to not only witness this change, but to actually help make it happen.
