Welcome New Models to the Virtual Storage Platform family

Blog Post created by Mike Nalls Employee on Apr 28, 2015

High-end storage is usually considered the most capable and our VSP G1000 is rated highest in critical capabilities, quality and performance. The Storage Virtualization Operating System (SVOS) proven in mission critical deployments worldwide provides the intelligence of this high performance engine.

Hitachi is now extending that software defined infrastructure with four new models in the Virtual Storage Platform family. The VSP G200, G400, G600 and G800* SVOS-based platforms will redefine the idea of enterprise storage. With 1.4 million IOPS flash optimized performance, industry leading storage virtualization efficiency and 100% data availability guarantee** these storage systems are a no-compromise alternative to traditional platforms.

Technologies in over 3,000 patents have gone in to the design of these new storage systems. That’s more than any other storage vendor. Hitachi Accelerated Flash, Hitachi Dynamic Tiering active flash, storage virtualization, global-active device*** and high performance Hitachi NAS are some examples making up the new Virtual Storage Platform capabilities.

The VSP G200 is now the entry point to the family. Its compact two rack unit 12 or 24 drive design provides four times the performance of our current HUS 110. The VSP G400 provides four times the performance of our HUS 130 and is expandable to 1PB of flash. An investment protecting license key is available to upgrade it to the scalability of the VSP G600. This model delivers 3 times the performance of our HUS 150. The VSP G800 scales to 2PB of flash and delivers 40% more performance than the HUS VM or the original VSP.  Collectively they offer multiple entry points into the family.

Not only is mission critical storage virtualization included with every model, we have also invested in making storage more efficient. The new Hitachi Infrastructure Director provides a simplified management approach to streamline administration. Hitachi Automation Director automates workflows to accelerate storage provisioning operations. And the new Hitachi Data Instance Director easily transforms backup designs into policies.

For the businesses these new platforms will serve, HDS will help to increase IT efficiency by delivering continuous access to data across platform generations, enable new and existing IT staff to manage and service systems faster and align IT to business initiatives and increase agility with application-specific provisioning. We’ll help to deliver leading flash performance to run workloads at peak performance and to prevent performance drop offs as data sets grow with the new automatic, active flash-tiering. For IT, we help eliminate risks to success by providing protection against common points of failure with this purpose-built architecture, enable continuous business operations with new global active device capabilities and reduce risk of unauthorized data access with enhanced security and encryption.

Welcome to the family, VSP G200, G400, G600 and G800!

* VSP G800 is planned to be available in the third calendar quarter of 2015.

**100% data availability guarantee is offered for the VSP G400, G600, G800 and G1000 models.
