Does G1000 support worm disk - if yes what license required
The VSP G1000 has a feature called Data Retention. With it you can set certain volumes to be Read-only. More details can be found in this guide: https://support.hds.com/download/epcra/rd80142.pdf.
Thanks a lot for your expertise suggestion . This is very helpful .
But I have some doubt .If we need to make any devices read only , we need to make sure :-
1. ldevs are not from any DP pool
2. It should be LUNS directly presented from the array to host not the P-VOL from DP pool
3.Once required data is written in the disk - Storage admin needs to make it read only with certain retention period .
But if the disks become read-only -File-system will also become read-only and server will not be able to access the FS [ here we are using AIX with LVM ] and it will generate error or cause server hung . In that case if some body needs to read the files from the corresponding disk how it can be accessed ?
Also once the retention period is over and we enable read-write - the FS/VG corresponding to the disk needs to be imported to make sure data is again writeable.
Thanks & Regards,
Either thick (AKA volumes carved from parity groups and not DP pools) or DP volumes can be used with the Data Retention feature.
Does AIX LVM still need to write I/O in order to mount volumes/FS as read only? If that's the case, you're right that this feature will not be the appropriate solution.
In addition to Dear Dang's comment, Data Retention Utility license includes SVOS license based on capacity and vsd pair.
