New upgrade – adding 4 G10 nodes to 16 node 500XL CR220s. The CR220s are connect to the backend switch via Twinax copper connections. We need to connect the G10’s by fiber as the new rack is of 25 feet away.
Based on what you’re saying, Twinax cables would not suffice. When carrying 10G Ethernet, the maximum length for Brocade is 5m and the maximum length for Cisco is 10m.
You’ll need 25m.
If 10G optical transceivers are used in the servers (Intel 10G transceiver with HDS part number E10GSFPSR.P), and the appropriate 10G SFP+ transceivers are installed in the switches (Cisco or Brocade), and port licenses are applied to the switches as required, then fiber optic cables can be used to connect the nodes in the remote rack to the switches in the base rack.
