Maximum VMDK size with HCP

When Deploying an HCP-VM System there is a section in the manual that states:

Each VMDK can be a maximum size of 2TB minus 512 bytes

However we have also heard:

VMware has supported VMDK above 2TB since vSphere 5.5.  We were told that for every data volume that HCP had to managed, it spawned a new worker process and it was best to add fewer larger luns.

What issues are you suggesting this causes?”

Which statement is correct?
