I have new project used hard disk type FMD 14 TB and 7TB. Customer need to know raid rebuild time with Raid6(6+2)
I found only old FMD type 1.6 TB and 3.2 TB. Please help.
FMD used on VSP G1500
This community is awkwardly quite I think...
This is my personal thoughts...
Hopefully the drives will be placed in a read-only state before they fails entirely, just as the magnetic drives does. When the drive is placed in read-only state and marked as to fail soon, data is still accesible and readable, and copy to hot spare drive will be done at 'mirror speed'. Therefore it is very rare that rebuilding of failed drives is done from parity which is much slower.
That does not answer your question, but it tells us that rebuilding is a lot faster compared to rebuilds from parity. My guess is one hour pr. TB.
Also would I always recommend RAID6 in cases where large drives are used and/or when uptime and prevention of data loss is important.
Again, just my thoughts - hopefully someone will reply.
By the way, would you share the information you have on the old 1,6TB and 3,2TB, please?
Thanks for answer
