Hi, on a V1000 when is the best time to expand a DP-pool with a newly added PG?
With IBM storage its non-disruptive so can be done when needed.
When adding new PG to pool its not impact to the storage situation but, if you want to shrink Pool it has alot of dependency,
What type new PG RAID type will be used. (2+2) , (5+3) , (7+1) ,(14+2)
What type PG will to be add or remove (SAS-SATA-SSD).
How many PG will be added or removed.
For example if added SATA tier PG to Pool and you want to remove SAS or SSD tier PG, when shrink operation completed, pools IO capability can be decreasing.
Shrink operation how long it will take on pool, it depended how much data mapped to PG disks. Because during the shrink operation that mapped data in PG disks will be relocating to other PG disks of Pool.
The Hitachi storages optimizing this type operation, so it doesn't get any impact general situation of storage.
Hi, I now realise this is as I thought non-disruptive: adding a new (raid6 15TB) PG.
I also notice in doing this the system starts: "Pool Management Task ==> rebalancing"
My supplementary question is: can I(is it wise to) manipulate the pool during "rebalancing"? eg remove another unwanted PG.
Or, should I wait until this is complete? The annoyance here is that it gives no hint as to how long this task will last!? Or, does it somewhere else?
