I work for a company with ~ 500 TB of heterogeneous storage. The current strategy is to treat Tier2 storage as a commodity and have USP virtualize it providing Tier 1 functionality and feautures for the Tier 2 frames. We have virtualized ~ 150 TB of Tier 2 storage.
But there is a decision from senior management that standardisation of Tier 2 storage results in better TCO versus commodotization of storage. The decision is to use Tier 2 frames from a single vendor. Has any one done any comparitive analysis for standardisation versus commodotization of Tier 2 frames ?
I am all for commoditization. Does any one have real good arguements against standardisation with a single vendor ?
