Can AMS500 do standard volume sharing and multipath?

I keep getting the runaround from support, this is my question:

Without using HDLM for proprietary HDS multipath, and without using ShadowImage or some other HDS feature, can I do the following with an AMS500 or am I just wasting my time?

- Set up a Linux box with a dual port qlogic card and enable hardware failover
(This is something I can do with every other storage array I've worked with, EMC, HP, even some no-name brands)

- Set up a volume mapped to two servers, one of the servers writes to this volume, and the other reads from it
Again, this is something I've done with a number of storage arrays, however after spending a week testing it with AMS500
I was unable to get the volume sharing to work

When I contacted support I was asked to use ShadowImage, which requires a waste of 500GB to have a replicated read-write
volume than I simply wanted to read from another box. We had to turn off ShadowImage because having it enabled uses 30% of
our buffer memory, and the controllers were choking already

I need to do this without installing any HDS software on the hosts and without using any kind of shadow volume on the san

Looking forward to some feedback
