I was just wondering changing the stripe unit size of a LUN (when creating it) from default 64KB to 512KB will have any effect like increased IO response time. Can any of you advise on the advantages/disadvantages of changing this setting?
We have a proprietary DB kind of application which tries to read multiple number of 2GB files at the same time (parallel reads) from a LUN in Raid5(6D+1P) configuration and it is impacting application performance. I was asked by the application team to see if we can tune the stripe size by providing another test LUN and see if that helps improving the response time.
Pardon me if any of my understanding is fundamentally wrong and advise.
