I'm trying to confirm what host configurations/settings need to be set to virtualize a 6540 behind a VSP. Thanks in Advance.I have not worked on a VSP but I assume it would be similar to a USPV when it comes to virtualisaton. The Sun 6540 is basically the same as an IBM DS4000 series or other LSI based arrays. The host mode setting that I used for the DS4000 series was Linux. I once tried Windows and it was not very suitable in our case. I imagine you know how to actually virtualise the external storage, ie, set the port type to External and then discover the array and the rest. Just remember that the 6540 is an active/passive controller array so you might want to think about that when you hook the two systems together. So when you are using an active/active system, only one path will have the data. LSI systems have a tendency to failover controllers for some reason or another so you might want to see how the host copes. You can force the 6540 to failover as a test. I ran a number of those systems and it all worked well.
