This year the northern solstice happens on June 21 (exact at 5:04 a.m. Universal Time). This day marks the point where the sun reaches its highest point in sky for the northern hemisphere. It's also the day when the sun rises and sets farthest to the north.

As the solstices are celestial events, they are something that happens for everyone on the planet together. Although our friends in the southern hemisphere see the sun is at its lowest point right now, this day marks a turning point for everyone.

This year I plan to get up early and observe the point on the horizon where the sun rises.

How do you like to observe the solstice? If you have any specific plans, or memorble experiences of past solstice events, please reply.

Happy solstice!
