Does anyone know if there are any implications in upgrading the tuning manager agent for raid from 6.3 to 7.2.1 ? We're running Tuning Manager 7.2.1. Also, is this a inplace upgrade or we need to change some configuration?
There is no specific path to upgrades , I did some from 6.x -> 7.x but I would recommend the latest which is 7.5.0 , there have been some bugs fixed. Also the HCS version 7.5.x is out as well. The versions are GA and available for download.
I recommend to backup your current HCS DB with the hcmdsbackup command:
#Common-Component-installation-folder\bin\hcmdsbackups /dir folder-for-storing-backup-files.
I haven't done this myself so just going off the manual... it seems like this is an in-place upgrade. The manual only mentions that you need to stop Tuning Manger services on that server. There is no requirement to export any configuration details. Can anyone who has done it confirm if my understanding is correct?
I've done upgrades from 6.3 to 7.x and have never had any issues with the upgrade. Everything stays intact. Just have to stop the agent before the upgrade and then start it again after the upgrade.
So can we just upgrade the whole device manager and tuning manager to 7.5 ? Isn’t that hardware specific ? Can you link a document explaining the upgrade procedure?
Thank you again all!
Yes, you can download the hcs installer and start the one-click installer, it will install the command suite package.
While installing it will automatically stop all the process running in the server and also will backup the existing configuration.
It's not hardware specific. You need to download the respective software for your OS.
Regarding documents, download the PDL (Product Documentation Library) from the portal, there are different documents that will explain each components installation procedures.
Check for HTnM-InstallationGuide HC14119 , there is a section on the upgrades.
The one-click-installer is a nice invention, but you have to look very carfully what the installer would like to install. If you're not deselect products you don't want, the installer will install those in the default folder C:\program...
I prefer the step by step upgarde, without the one-click-installer.
We run HTnM 7.5 with 20 Raid Agents, without any problems.
