Is there any best practise for configuring hot spare drives on VSP? Especially on the count of hot spare drives based on the count of used drives.
I believe this is what the HDS distribution centers use (at least from my notes one year ago):
I'd use these as guidelines. You will have to consider other factors that are specific to your company. For example: the time to acquire additional drives.

When a SBX is installed, the drive in slot "0F" can be configured as a spare and in UBX type slot "09", will be configured as spare.
The basic rule of thumb is - A failed HDD can spare out to a spare as long as

>> capacity can be equal or greater
It's always good to have a minimum of two spare drives. And apart from that the number of spare depends on the agreement between the customer and HDS.
