I'm trying to get a VSP and a HUS built and ready to go. The ldevs I intend to use for DP and DT pools are in quick format and have been for a while. Can I build the pools on top of them while they are in this state?
The answer is yes, but the impact will depend. The process needs to label the pages that are in the physical pool. If you start provisioning capacity during the quick format process, it will interrupt and sort out your specific pages/requirements at the cost of an elongated quick format process. If you map and initialize an NTFS volume you impose a small load on the quick format because the number of pages referenced are small. If you initialize a UFS file system you'll be referencing many pages across the full capacity of the volume and therefore cause a much bigger impact to any quick format. but you *can* do it. I wait until the process is finished before actually loading data. GB
I know the VSP will allow you to add the Quick Formatting LDEVS to pools, not sure about the HUS.
