On a VSP platform is there a way via Storage Navigator or anything that doesn't require physically looking at the cabinet to determine which FC ports have cables connected?
You can view the physical status of the array's ports from Storage Navigator > Actions > Component > View Port Location. The information is real time. It'll tell you if a port is connected to something on the other end.
You could use a configuration report.
Unfortunately for me the configuration report, while it does list the ports, does not indicate which are actually connected to a switch or other device.
It is a nice report, I've never run it before so I've at least learned what it does have.
Can you connect to your switch to see the ports?
Have you looked at the ports/host groups section under the storage system section?
Does that show you what you’re after?
I'm looking for a way to look at the VSP and determine if it thinks a particular port is connected or not. Most other FC devices I've worked with including switches, hosts and other storage vendors indicate the connection status fairly clearly.
I can, as you implied, go to my switches and other devices and look from that side to see if the VSP wwns are detected and compare the ones that are to the complete list to find what is plugged in.
I can also drive to the location and look, just neither of those options is very efficient.
I appreciate your trying to help. I suspected the answer was 'no' but took a shot posting it out here.
Thank you! This is what I was looking for.
