Reduce CO2 emissions, go green, save the planet, these are just some of the buzz words we hear within the datacenter industry, but how many vendors can you say are actually tackling the problem today? Data center sustainability is the practice of making data centers more energy efficient and environmentally friendly. It's important because data centers consume a lot of energy, and this demand is growing. Strategies to tackle sustainability include the use of renewable energy, reducing waste, and utilizing energy-efficient technologies.
Hitachi Vantara as a premier storage vendor tackles this issue head on. With the release of our VSP One Block storage systems, we have set the industry standard for sustainability. With a podium sweep of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, receiving the most efficient energy star ratings for a storage vendor we respectively provide the highest IOPs per watt operations at 535, with the closet competitor coming in at 330 IOPs per watt.
This is why the partnership between Hitachi and Cisco is key to revolutionizing the modern data center to become more sustainable. Cisco also provides the most efficient computing platform in terms of performance per watt and per BTU in its category in the form of UCS-X Series. This efficiency is achieved with optimized power and cooling operations. Matching the best-in-class compute with the best-in-class storage results in a solution that can pivot your organization in the right direction for the data center modernization journey.
For customers who are on this journey, the Cisco and Hitachi Adaptive Solution can quantify insights into datacenter performance in the form of polling sustainability metrics from the respective compute, network, and storage stack and bubble them into a single interface for monitoring. This comes in the form of Cisco Intersight sustainability metrics.
This upcoming feature enhancement will enable customers to view native Hitachi VSP energy, power draw, temperature, and other relatable metrics all from Cisco Intersight. This capability will enable IT professionals to gauge how efficiently their data center is operating and, if need be, make the appropriate remediation to stay on track with their sustainability goals. The following image represents the environmental metrics view of Hitachi VSP within Cisco Intersight.
For a firsthand introduction to this new capability, visit the Hitachi booth #06 at Cisco Live 2025 Amsterdam and witness our latest demonstration showcasing the power of the Cisco and Hitachi Adaptive solution along with all of the latest enhancements to Cisco Intersight.
Hitachi and Cisco maintain an ongoing collaboration to integrate additional storage capabilities into Intersight. Stay tuned to our next announcement for information about further enhancements.
