Assess your cloud maturity and plan the transformation roadmap for competitive advantage
Moving to cloud is essential in today’s scenario as it allows the agility required to compete and stay ahead in the world of disruption. The diversified technologies, applications, and data portfolios that underpin modern digital business platforms and services along with the acceleration in the rate of change required to sustain a modern digital service are the greatest sources of stress for today's CIOs and their teams. Business professionals know that meeting digital economy–driven innovation goals related to enhanced user experiences and improved business operations requires transformation of the IT organization and its application/data assets in the next several years.
IDC
predicts that by 2022, 46% of a typical enterprise's products and services will be digital or digitally enhanced.
Those enterprises that emerge as leaders in this new business landscape will:
Have a long-term investment strategy based on the principle that data is inherently valuable to the business. Digital initiatives are built around creating, delivering, and acting on data faster and more creatively, not just once but continuously.
Adopt a single enterprise strategy from cloud to core to edge. The entire organization rallies around a single, cross-cloud and cross-location strategy instead of trying to coordinate multiple distinct strategies rooted in various lines of business and functional areas.
Leverage a single operational platform to scale innovations. They can scale development (DevOps), data (DataOps), and security (DevSecOps) operations via common digital platform across the organization.
Be resolute in making the required organizational and cultural changes. They are committed to embedding digital throughout the organization as opposed to residing in separate digital/cloud centers of excellence.
A vast majority of organizations understand the value of cloud and many are in the process of moving workloads onto the cloud. Cloud adoption plans may deliver a few initial benefits but may fail to deliver a long-term competitive advantage to the business if they lack a vision. To be effective, a cloud deployment needs to be based on a well thought out strategy that’s tied to the overall business strategy. The better an organization is in its vision, execution, and ability to overcome challenges along the way, the higher it is in the maturity curve — giving it a competitive differentiation.
Going one step further, the organizations need a digital platform to be able to use data in making quick business decisions and staying ahead of competition. This digital platform, built on a multicloud architecture, with data at its heart, spans across IT, digital, and business domains, and starts with an "intelligent core" that holds the code that enables business teams to turn data into insights and tools.
A well-thought-out cloud strategy and consistent execution of this strategy delivers the flexibility and scale that underpins digital business success and data transformation.
The key priorities for organizations accelerating their digital transformation journeys are IT modernization, successful cloud adoption, and progress in becoming data-driven. They want to use cloud and data transformation initiatives to improve efficiency, business performance, and the speed of innovation. Delivering on digital business mandates requires a well-thought-out cloud strategy and set of technologies to drive innovation, all without compromising on cost control, security, or regulatory obligations. Providing a flexible IT delivery model and relevant data at speed, while aligning with business needs, is critical.
According to IDC analysts
, regardless of what industries or which countries you compete in,
you, your business partners, and your competitors will invest over $5.5 trillion on the creation, expansion, and ongoing enhancement of digital business platforms by the end of 2021
to drive this economic transition.
These new digital platforms will reshape entire business ecosystems and spur a wave of rapid innovation on what is both more targeted and data driven.
Developing a successful cloud and data strategy will be the bedrock to digitally transform your organization in a scalable and agile manner.
Organizations that view cloud as a critical technology and the foundation of their digital transformation — and not just a tactical way to save costs — will be in a better position to capitalize on new digital initiatives, yield higher returns, and ultimately make cloud strategy a success.
You can take this cloud migration, application modernization, and data capitalization maturity test to gauge your cloud maturity stage. This assessment will help in understanding your cloud objectives and critical challenges being faced in your digital transformation strategy, and could be used as a good starting point to plan your cloud roadmap that sets your apart from competition.
