Paving the Way with Digitalization: Customer Highlights from the Hitachi Vantara Digital Infrastructure Advantage Show 2020
Hitachi Vantara hosted their first Digital Infrastructure Advantage Show. As part of the event, our pioneering customers revealed how they are growing their businesses, boosting efficiencies and reducing costs through digital innovation.
Rabobank
Colin Chatelier, Cloud and Platform Manager at Rabobank, explained how the Dutch cooperative bank is transforming IT by migrating from a traditional on-premise environment. “We want to deliver exceptional digital services to our eight million customers across the globe. This led us to embark on a four-year project that will see 80% of our applications migrated to the public cloud,” said Chatelier. “We needed to look at how we can keep IT highly available and cost-effective during that transition.”
The bank has started a number of initiatives, including the deployment of Hitachi Unified Compute Platform (HCP) to deliver standardized and automated virtual machines to business teams faster. “With Hitachi UCP, we can manage a growing environment without increasing resources,” affirmed Chatelier. “We’re now supporting 15,000 virtual machines, 14.5 Petabytes of storage and 100 bare metal servers with a team of just five. As well as reducing manual error and maximizing efficiency, we’ve been able to reduce the typical time to delivery from hours to minutes.”
With the IT transformation resulting in the retirement or refactoring of legacy database systems, Chatelier and his team have come up with an innovative solution to keep data available. Using Hitachi Content Platform, the solution enables Rabobank to easily access data while avoiding the need to run old systems or pay for licenses for just a couple of queries a quarter.
To mitigate the risk of ransomware attacks, Rabobank is launching an immutable storage solution for backups based on Hitachi Content Platform. It’s also keeping up with VDI (virtual desktop infrastructure) needs with Hitachi G-series storage, which delivers a 13:1 data reduction ratio...
