VSP One Block Storage Achieves Certification for SUSE Virtualization
Delivering seamless enterprise storage integration for SUSE’s Kubernetes-based virtualization platform.
We’re excited to announce that Hitachi Vantara’s Virtual Storage Platform (VSP) One Block has been officially validated and certified for SUSE Virtualization - the enterprise edition of the Harvester HCI solution. This certification reinforces our commitment to delivering enterprise-grade storage integration across modern virtualization and Kubernetes environments.

Bringing Enterprise Storage to SUSE Virtualization
SUSE Virtualization (formerly Harvester) is a Kubernetes-native hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) platform that unifies virtual machines and container workloads under a single management interface powered by Rancher.
With Hitachi VSP One Block integration, SUSE customers can now leverage high-performance, resilient block storage backed by enterprise reliability for their HCI and cloud-native deployments.
This integration uses the Hitachi Storage Plug-in for Containers (HSPC), our CSI (Container Storage Interface) driver that automates persistent volume provisioning, multipath I/O redundancy, and snapshot operations directly within the SUSE Virtualization ecosystem.

Why This Matters
Enterprises running SUSE Virtualization can now:
• Deploy and manage persistent storage directly from Hitachi VSP systems.
• Use multipath I/O for full path redundancy and failover resilience.
• Take advantage of Kubernetes-native snapshots and data protection for both VM and container workloads.
• Seamlessly integrate Hitachi’s enterprise storage capabilities into Rancher-managed clusters.
Validated Configuration
Certification testing was performed using SUSE Virtualization 1.5.x (Harvester 1.5.2) with the following components:
• Kubernetes v1.32.7+rke2r1
• Hitachi Storage Plug-in for Containers (HSPC) v3.16.1
• Hitachi VSP One Block Storage Systems
All test scenarios, including persistent volume provisioning, snapshot management, and multipath I/O validation, were successfully executed, confirming interoperability between Hitachi VSP storage and SUSE’s Kubernetes-based virtualization stack.

Simplified Deployment with the Hitachi CSI Operator
The HSPC Operator automates installation and lifecycle management of the Hitachi CSI driver on SUSE Virtualization clusters. Administrators can:
• Enable multipath support via SUSE CloudInit.
• Deploy the HSPC Operator from GitHub.
• Configure namespaces, secrets, and storage classes using native Kubernetes resources.
• Create and attach persistent volumes to VMs or pods, all through the SUSE Virtualization UI or CLI.
A Unified Future for Virtualization and Storage
This certification highlights Hitachi Vantara’s continuing collaboration with SUSE to empower customers with open, flexible, and enterprise-ready infrastructure. Organizations can now confidently deploy Hitachi VSP storage as part of their SUSE Virtualization clusters, achieving a robust foundation for hybrid workloads spanning virtual machines and containers.
