  • 1.  Time Zone Discrepancy in Snapshot and Replication Group Timing: Need Help!

    Posted 25 days ago

I wanted to ask for assistance with an issue I encountered. I have a list of volumes protected using local replication via snapshots. I noticed that the creation time of the snapshots aligns with the time zone we set. However, in the replication group, where there is a split time, the time doesn't match-it's off by +8 hours from our set time zone.

I tried modifying the NTP server and local time settings, but it didn't resolve the issue. We accessed the Ops Center VM using PuTTY for troubleshooting, but the problem persists. Could you please advise on how to fix this?

    Hello Patrick

Do you know which version you have? Depending on your version this is configurable in VAM I believe. If you edit the URL bar and put /vam/ after login to administrator it might give you the opportunity to update it there. Give it a go and see if it helps. Details in the docs here (even though it seems to outdated for the current version of Ops Center)

    Hello Patrick

Disclaimer: This is a public site, any advice on here is give on a free-to-try basis and is by no-means a reflection on Hitachi. For official support, please log a support request with Hitachi.

Administrator warned me that snapshot scheduler is based on UTC. However split-time is based on my local time zone. I can think it's either based on hardware time or Ops Center local timezone setting.

Example. UTC is 2pm but local timezone when I configured it was 3pm:

You can do this locally on the Ops Center VM using the timezone-set command via SSH.
You can see somebody else tried this on the Veritas site here: https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.100026313

You can update your local array by going to the array on HOC Administrator here:

And then setting the time in the embedded GUI using the maintenance utility based on this procedure:
    https://docs.hitachivantara.com/r/en-us/virtual-storage-platform-e-series/88-08-1x/mk-97hm85022/changing-the-clock-and-network-settings

I hope that solves your problem. On a side note I saw your systems are not calling home. Might be good to check that they're sending call home data via Hitrack or Remote Ops.

    Hello Patrick

Disclaimer: This is a community site, for support, it's better to raise a support request. Any advice from this platform is provided on a free to try basis but doesn't mean Hitachi is held liable should it have any adverse effect on your system or installation.

I made a snapshot in Administrator. Even though it tells me it would schedule it on UTC it seems like my split-time is based on my local time zone.

I suspect it's either because of my Ops Center Time zone configuration, or my storage system time zone configuration. Maybe check both(UTC time was 2pm, while local time is 3pm):

https://docs.hitachivantara.com/r/en-us/virtual-storage-platform-e-series/88-08-1x/mk-97hm85022/changing-the-clock-and-network-settings - How to set the time zone on the E-series hardware.

Since Ops Center is Oracle Linux based I believe you could set the timezone settings using: timezone-set
Seems like somebody did this here as well: https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.100026313

Once set, you should restart the services or reboot the VM. Then it should be in the local timezone like my installation. I'm running 11.0.3 for reference.
