Is it recommended to create two HDP pools on 1 Parity Group on VSP?

Team,

I have been trying to understand the rationale and perquisites behind pool-vols and DP pools. The documentation reads below:

While pool-VOLs can coexist with other volumes in the same parity group, for best performance Pool-VOLs for a pool should not share a parity group with other volumes.

Does these "other volumes" also include other pool-vols?

Thanks!

Hi Abhishek,

that means, a Parity Group should be exclusively used for just one pool.

Put all the LDEVs on the same Parity Group in the same pool.

In the past some customers wanted to share expensive SSD-Parity Groups by different pools for Tiering.

That is a bad idea, because of possible performance issues and less redundancy (when this shared Parity-Group fails, it will impact all the pools then).

Cheers

Hi Abhishek,

The "other volumes" mentioned refer to additional PVOLs from the same or different PGs. Depending on the size, type, and intended use of the PG, you may need to format it into multiple PVOLs.

As previously mentioned, sharing a single PG across multiple pools is not recommended.
