Issue:
We are attempting to configure Ops Center Probe to communicate with the VSP F5200 using the Command Device (in-band communication). The configuration/discovery is failing.

Questions:

  1. Is it supported to present a Command Device from meta_resource to a host group that belongs to a Virtual Storage resource group?
  2. Does the Command Device need to reside in the same resource group as the ESXi host group and Probe server?
  3. Are there any specific Host Mode Options (for example HMO 76) required for Command Device access by Ops Center Probe?
  4. Has anyone successfully configured Ops Center Probe in a similar environment where the Probe server is a VM and the Command Device resides in meta_resource?

Any guidance, best practices, or documentation references would be appreciated.

HM 76 and HMO 76 have no connection to this.

I would suggest to open a case with support.

  1. You can not assign a LDEV from the meta_resource to a host group in a VSM. LDEV resource group must be the same as the host group.
I'm not sure if a command device (CMD) may be moved to a VSM, but I don't see why not - haven't tried it, as my VM is on another storage array as the CMD from our VSP5600.
If needed you have to use a dedicated frontend port to the CMD, create a host group in the meta resource and assign the CMD to this.
  2. Yes, but you may create an ESXi hostgroup in another resource group on another frontend port.
  3. No specific HMO's are required for CMD - I use 40, 73 and 110 on my CMDs.
  4. I have the RAID Probe running as a VM, but the hostgroup on my VSP5600 is in the meta resource.

Are you adding the storage array only with the CMD? Or are you also using REST-API?
I use both CMD and REST-API.
