With the introduction of VMware vStorage APIs for Data Protection (VADP) restore over SAN with Ops Center Protector v7.6, protected VMs can now be restored using VMware SAN as the transport mode. This method can efficiently pass virtual disk data between a VM and the proxy because no data traverses the LAN. Our objective is to test: ·        Data Protection policies combined with data flow diagrams to automate local backups and replications for end-to-end data protection using VMware SAN transport mode. ·        Recovery Solutions to revert production VMs to a specific point in time and create copies using VMware SAN transport ...

Today, data is the key to everything; if we aren’t protecting our data, we aren’t doing enough. Even when we protect our data, we must ensure that it’s backed up correctly and that we can restore it when required. At Hitachi, we’re attempting to achieve something similar for our Ops Center applications. Until now, we could back up and restore individual Ops Center applications using the command line. However, with Protector 7.7, we can now schedule backups of the Ops Center products and restore them using the UI. This blog shows how to back up and restore Ops Center applications using Ops Center Protector. These applications include Administrator, ...

Easy FC-NVMe Provisioning in Ops Center Administrator 10.9.3   Ops Center Administrator v10.9.3 includes a new feature for managing FC-NVMe resources and FC-NVMe provisioning. Usually, the NVMe concept comes with many things like subsystem, namespace, NQN, and so on, which can cause confusion. However, Administrator does its magic by hiding these internal complexities from end users by managing them internally. In this blog, we’ll discuss how easily a storage administrator can provision volumes to an FC-NVMe resource by using Ops Center Administrator v10.9.3.   This blog consists of the following sections:   ·        NVMe architecture ...

Moving a CM-REST Server to a Clustered Environment   Because Configuration Manager API (CM-REST API) is a commonly used management tool, it’s always a good idea to run it from a clustered environment to avoid any disruption. However, it’s also a challenging task for a customer to move their entire existing API environment from a non-clustered environment to a clustered environment instead of deploying a new API environment in a clustered environment.   In this blog, we’ll provide details for moving an existing API environment (Hitachi Ops Center API Configuration Manager) from a non-clustered environment to a clustered environment using the ...

In Ops Center Administrator v10.9.0, a new enhancement for the Server Group Management feature has been added. This enhancement allows you to use the path of an existing cluster server node to map a newly added server node to the server group. Alternatively, ports can be introduced to a server group cluster when adding a new server node. In addition, the same enhanced server group workflow removes paths and volumes when removing a server node from the server group. Simplified depiction: Adding a path for a new server This blog consists of the following sections: Enhancement advantages. Adding a server in the Server Group and attaching volumes. ...

Objective Validate the Global Replication Report (GRR) in Hitachi Ops Center Protector v7.3 in a large-scale environment. Validate the impact of running the reports on an Ops Center V10.8.0 API Configuration Manager (CM-REST) server by registering ten VSP 5600 storage systems (approximately 9K replication pairs) Introduction The Global Replication Reports provide a complete list of all replications on the storage systems including replications that are not managed by Protector. This feature works by interfacing with the Ops Center CM-REST server, which provides an inventory of all replications on each storage system. Protector caches the result from ...

Objective Ops Center v10.8.0 supports data-in-place upgrades of storage systems moving from VSP 5500 to VSP 5600. This blog highlights how easily Ops Center adapts to the upgrade. The upgrade was tested in the lab and the impact on Ops Center products was tracked. Introduction Data-in-place (DIP) upgrades provide the following benefits: You can upgrade current-generation controllers to the next generation controllers without data migration. You do not need new drives because the next-generation controllers continue to use the current controller drives. These changes are transparent to Ops Center, so the Ops Center products adapt to the upgrade ...
