  • 1.  Ops Center move from RHEL 7.9 to RHEL 9.3

    Afternoon

Has anyone successfully managed to move Ops Center and the Probes to new RHEL hosts?

If so is there anything I need to be aware of that could make the move easier?

    Thanks
    Mike

    Hi Mike,

    it could be a challenge.

Generally, you have two options to follow.

    1) RHEL Linux update/upgrade from 7.9 to 9.2.
Needs some specific RHEL knowledge. But you can keep you OpsCenter configuration.

    2) Build a new RHEL 9.2 environment, backup the existing OpsCenter Configuration and restore it to this new RHEL 9.2 environment.
There is an article that describes the steps : https://community.hitachivantara.com/blogs/karan-patani/2024/02/05/ops-center-backup-and-restore-using-protector
But this ways works only when you have a Protector Client (Proxy Node) running on a separate VM. When you have bound your Hitachi Storage Devices in OpsCenter Protector via the own Master Node (also in the role of a Proxy Node) then this way does not work. In this case there exist a workaround. To know how to use this workaround you need to open an offical Support Case, the Support Team will send you the workaround.

    Hi Sven,

Thanks for the reply, I have 3 new hosts waiting to move the configuration to so thankfully I don't have to worry about upgrading the OS in situ.

I might need the workaround looking at our configuration

    Hi all,

One solution is to upgrade to Ops Center 10.9.3 that support OL 7, OL 8 and OL 9.

Then to export all the desired DataBases (Administrator, Common Services, Analyzer, Detail View, Protector ...)

Then to stop the old Ops Center Server.

Then to reinstall Ops Center 10.9.3

Via the OVA that used OL 9.2 on a new VM with the same IPs, Hostname (if the standard port number where used for the original installation).

Or via Express Installer on a new Linux 9.x server with all the prerequisites, with same IP, Hostname, and port number as the original server.

Then to restore the DataBases of all the Product.

It might be necessary to reinstall custom ssl certficate on the new server.

HitachiVantara will put shortly on Knowledge Site a document with the detailed steps.

    Thanks and regards,

    Hi Sylvain

    Thanks for the response

Our current Ops Center version is 10.9.3 and I guess the repository server will need to be something other than the old Ops Center host.

From what I can see some instructions are shared in Sven's reply

Just to keep this thread alive.

Beside the OpsCenter BACKUP/RESTORE procedure its also possible this way:

While OpsCenter is on version 10.9.3, update the existing OpsCenter Linux VMs:

    • Update Oracle Linux from 7.9 to 8.10
    • Update Oracle Linux from 8.10 to 9.2
    • And then Update OpsCenter to 11.0.2

Its not an easy way but its working.

    Hi Kirsten,

How is the procedure (more in detail) you mentioned in your last post?

I was able to do the update from 7.9 to 8.10 with leapp aplication but the problem was that all packages related to postgres was removed so common services was not able to start after migrating the OS.

I will appreciate any type of help for solving this step.

    Many thanks,
