and you have also to use the corect user name (you wil find it in SF) and PASSWORD+SECURITY TOKEN

I also struglled with this, its not about trial i guess. You have to find the pdi-salesforce-plugin folder and check the api version. For me was by default also 41, but the correct one is 37   https://login.salesforce.com/services/Soap/u/37.0   Vadim

In PDI i guess you can ignore the semi-colon, but anyway  $(variable) doesnt work, as it treats everything inside ... as a simple text. If i run the query, i just have no rows provided.

looks like it thinks, that $(serial) is the required value. So, it eliminates the call function of $ and treats it just like a simple text.
