(Al thanks for copying me.) Amandeep, Is it possible to serve in multiple domains with the Global security setting on EVSs? All EVSs in a security context must be joined to the same Active Directory domain. Each EVS in the global security context will have (at least) one distinct serving name (cifs-name), ...

We dont usually make any specific recommendations about this setting because there are so many different scenarios that could be encountered. Some of the anti-virus software vendors do make recommendations based on what their scanning engine has been optimised for, so it may be worth checking their ...

David McLeod, I am pleased that this helped with your issue, but please be careful taking advice given about another situation and applying it to your own systems.  A solution thats helpful for one system may be detrimental to another, so its always a good idea to ask our support team for assistance ...

It may be that the Active Directory is configured to only support Kerberos authentication, and that requires the use of host names, not IP addresses.  I would suggest opening a support case via Support Connect.

It would be worth discussing both of these situations with the Hitachi support teams again to understand whats going on.  In David McLeods case where Trend Micro anti-virus is involved, we would be happy to work with the vendor to resolve the problem.

What version of code were you running?  The --delete-contents option was added to the command in HNAS OS 12.4.3924.02 which was released in July 2015.

The HNAS has supported SMB 2 and 3 secure negotiation for a long time. I would suggest opening a support case so that Hitachi Vantara support can help you understand the cause.

The cifs-name manual page which is accessible from the System Management Unit (SMU) GUI or the HNAS console explains the syntax that is expected:         cifs-name add -m ads [ -a ] [ -f ]         [ -p ] ...                 where ...                 -f, --folder                     ADS directory ...

Thats true, but there is no simple way of migrating existing iSCSI LUs from the NAS module to the block controller iSCSI.  The only option would be to create a new VMware datastore using a block controller iSCSI LU as the target, and then tell VMware to migrate (copy) all the data.

iSCSI is fully supported on HNAS.  We will also support iSCSI with VMware initiators, but we would prefer customers to use NFS with VMware as it gives a better experience and better performance.

The SMI-S adapters for Hitachi storage do not include support for the NAS module in VSP G and VSP F models. The NAS module can be configured with several IP addresses for both management and file serving, all separate from the SVOS management IP addresses.  The NAS module also has a supported REST API ...
