The automotive industry like all technology driven industries is undergoing major changes. EV vehicles are looking at new solid state batteries that can be charged up in minutes, trucks are looking at fuel cell vehicles using hydrogen for more power efficiencies, climate change is driving legislative restrictions on fuel emissions, new automobile companies emerge and garner higher valuations than asset heavy companies that have been in business for hundreds of years, social media companies are connecting into automotive communication and entertainment systems, and self-driving car technologies are being gobbled up by service companies that see car as a service.

In the future I won’t need a car, since a self-driving car will show up whenever, I need transportation and take me wherever I want to go. I won’t need to find a parking space, and I won’t even need a garage at home. I wouldn’t need car insurance and no monthly car payments. I would expect to have flexible usage options. I may still prefer a Lexus with leather seats and cup holders. I might want some special options like a dog ramp so my 14 year old dog can get in the car or have a large screen TV during the NFL play offs.  And I might want to link my payments to a payment card. I would want the flexibility to use what I want and only pay for it when I use it. I would also like to link other services in my home to my car service.
