Digital transformation is impacting all industries. Digital disruptors like UBER and AirBnB are changing the revenue model for traditional transportation and hospitality businesses and zooming to higher valuation at the expense of these businesses. Digitally enhanced processes, goods and services focus on the outcomes rather than products and deliver the agility that is required in a rapidly changing world. Cloud is one of the main enablers for digital transformation. Traditional businesses that were not born in the cloud have many core applications that were not architected for public cloud. These applications may require more consistent and predicable outcomes for preserving management, control, security and governance. Innovative new, digital applications will need to be developed outside of traditional IT to ensure fast-paced incremental releases in order to be competitive. Gartner recommends that IT adopt a bi-modal approach
Mode 1: Traditional — emphasizes safety and accuracy
Mode 2: Nonlinear — emphasizes agility and speed
Hitachi Data Systems and VMware have teamed together to provide a solution that can bridge between Mode 1 and Mode 2 applications with a hybrid cloud solution. The application-specific, ready-to-use Hitachi Enterprise Cloud (HEC) platform combines pre-engineered, pre-built service catalogs with a dedicated converged platform, software and HDS- and/or partner-delivered services, helping users reduce operational costs and accelerating private and hybrid cloud deployments. Available now, the first instantiation of the HEC family, Hitachi Enterprise Cloud with VMware vRealize® Suite leverages the VMware vRealize Air® Cloud Management Platform™ (CMP). The solution is available on or off premises in a traditional acquisition model or a usage and outcome-based managed cloud solution. Hybrid cloud is a combination of public cloud services and on-premises private cloud – with orchestration and automation between the two. Companies can run mission-critical workloads or sensitive applications on the private cloud while using the public cloud for workloads that must scale on-demand. The goal of hybrid cloud is to create a unified, automated, scalable environment which takes advantage of all that a public cloud infrastructure can provide, while still maintaining control over mission-critical data. This solution enables self-service application deployment of mode 1 or mode 2 applications through one cloud portal.
What makes Hitachi Enterprise Cloud with VMware vRealize unique is the cloud services portal for self-service IT. It’s more than just hardware and software – the reason it is a turnkey solution is the availability of services to model and profile your applications and match them to the appropriate pre-engineered pre-build service catalog within the service portal so that they can be used and managed on a self-service basis. The difference is that you no longer have a long arduous task ahead of you after installing the cloud hardware and software. Unlike other converged cloud solutions which require separate management of the cloud and separate management of the converged infrastructure, the integration of UCP Director and vRealize provides a single cloud services portal.
Here’s what’s included with Hitachi Enterprise Cloud with VMware vRealize. It includes the UCP 4000 or UCP 4000e converged solution for VMware and the integrated UCP director + vRealize.. software which consolidates the management to a single interface. In addition, the following Hitachi Enterprise services are available:
Hitachi Cloud Strategy Workshop - workshop that precedes a customer cloud decision
Hitachi Enterprise Cloud with VMware vRealize Design Service - identifies use cases and blueprint requirements.
Hitachi Enterprise Cloud with VMware vRealize Deployment Service - deploys the hardware and software based on the design workshop, establishes process and implementation methodology, initial roles and access, workload orchestration, and VM allocation.
Hitachi Enterprise Cloud with VMware vRealize Deployment Service – Advanced - is available for additional services like backup or archive, based on a SOW.
Hitachi Enterprise Cloud Application Transition Service - models and profiles applications and adds them to the cloud services portal for self-service IaaS. This service creates the machine blueprints by application and establishes the automated process and methodology.
Hitachi Enterprise Cloud with Managed Cloud Services - is available for end to end deployment and management of Hitachi Enterprise Cloud delivered in an elastic consumption model. This services creates the detailed design for Hitachi Enterprise Cloud. It uses Measurable Gains Assessment to establish predicted TCO savings. HDS deploys Hitachi Enterprise Cloud, service catalog, and adds applications to cloud services portal for self-service IaaS. And, HDS manages, operates and delivers a catalog of services on an elastic consumption basis.
There are several ways to purchase the Hitachi Enterprise Cloud with VMware vRealize. First would be a capital purchase of hardware, software and services where the client manages the infrastructure. A lease can be used to preserve capital and spread payments. An on-demand or utility model is also offered where the base system is purchased or leased with flexible expansion reserve charged on a pay-per-use consumption basis. Here the client manages the infrastructure with HDS services (such as capacity reporting). The Hitachi Enterprise Cloud with Managed Cloud Services, mentioned above is the most elastic consumption model since it is based on a service level agreement on a pay per use basis and HDS manages the infrastructure. This eliminates the need for the client to worry about expansion, upgrades and migrations of infrastructure.
Hitachi Enterprise Cloud with Managed Cloud Services is about the outcome and not the products.
