Quick question - what is the minimum supported size for an HDP pool on VSP/VSP F-series/VSP G-series?
Seem to recall it was 4 parity groups on the VSP......?
Yes best pratice partiy group expansion is 4 parity groups
Minimum HDP pool can be a few GBs. The 4 PG best practice is strictly a performance play. Which means
a) Does not apply to Flash media (smaller number of PGs can provide optimal performance
b) If smaller # of PGs can provide you with enough performance, then you do not need 4 PGs even with spinning disk
The minimum hdp pool size depends on production volume capacity. HDS recommends the pool vol size was the whole capacity carved from RAID group that was maximum size 2.99TB. If RG size was above 2.99TB, divided by 2.99TB of the total size in the raid group.
If you want to configure with sas drives, 4RG is best practice to meet performance.
In the case of ssd, Just 2RG is okay.
