Hello! Can anyone please provide a step-by-step procedure on how to upgrade pentaho-server to newbies?
Upgrading a server from version to version requires bringing the configuration and various additional jar files over to the new version. So basically, I would recommend running the import-export.sh/bat script and --backup the 8.1 solution content. Then I would grab the 8.2 archived version and unzip it to a separate folder. Have a copy of your production 8.1 in another folder.
Use "Meld", a source code visual diff. tool and do a comparison between several folders:
8.1/pentaho-server/pentaho-solutions/system AND 8.2/pentaho-server/pentaho-solutions/system
-> paying attention mostly to xml and property file differences that make sense. (server name, hibernate, jackrabbit, server.properties etc.)
8.1/pentaho-server/tomcat/webapps/pentaho And 8.2 of the same.
Especially paying attention to tomcat/webapps/pentaho/META-INF and tomcat/webapps/pentaho/WEB-INF
In there you'll find JNDI connection definitions, some logging configurations, web.xml.
It will take time. It always takes time. Happy that it is so configurable, but this is the cost. It doesn't matter if you are a paying customer or community, it takes time and there are a lot of regressions. Check every corner of your solutions. Assume that everything is broken until you know for sure it works.
