In H-NAS, can we create storage pool using V-VOL as a system drive ?? and V-VOL will be allocate to H-NAS from Hitachi storage pool i.e. HDP/HDT pool. I want to create storage pool in H-NAS using HDP V-VOLs.
HNAS supports the use of volumes from an HDT/HDP pool provided:
The HDP pool is not over-provisioned. i.e. if you present HNAS 10TB worth of DP volumes, then the pool should contain 10TB's of capacity for HNAS.
For the HDP pool, we recommend that all LDEVs from a RAID Group are used in the pool. i.e. if you have a 6+2 RG with 4 LDEVs defined from that RAID Group, all four of those LDEVs should be mapped to the same HDP pool.
For volume creation, we recommend that no more than two DP volumes are created per physical RAID Group used in the HDP pool. i.e. you have 10 RAID groups with all the LDEVs mapped to a HDP pool. So you would not create more than 20 DP volumes and map those to HNAS.
For high performance, we recommend not sharing the pool with other clients.
On modular (HUS100 series):
Same rules apply, but on modular we also recommend using:
FULL capacity mode, and accelerated wide striping on the DP volumes
64K RAID stripe chunk size for the RAID Groups that are added into the HDP pool.
In general, HDP Pools should use RAID6
These guidelines are specifically for HNAS
Let me know if you have any additional questions.
No. you cannot create SD from a V-Vol.
Thanks Kamalarajan for your response..
Do you know why HDS is not allowing this? Any disadvantage?
Francisco Salinas, could explain it better.
Thanks Salinas for giving such a wonderful explanation..
Do you have any HDS official document on this to show our client?
Thanks Kamalarajan for your help to resolve my query.
