I want to set data retention for my HUR S-Vols for 1 year. How can I do it from CCI. Is there a way to reduce or increase data retention once I set them
use this option very carefully. Storage Navigator has the option. Remember a few things
- retention once set can only be increases
- there is NO WAY to reduce the retention. So you cannot go back and say, I accidentally set the retention and I need help. It will be an expensive mistake.
- Refer the CCI guide to know how to set the retention.
You might want to use Hitachi Data Instance Director software for such operations. It is easy and reliable product which is taking away most of the operational work from the shoulders of Storage Admins. It is free of license approximately for a month or so.
Hi, Pratheesh. Sorry, I just saw this post. The operation you want is called Data Retention Utility. It is included at no additional charge in SVOS and BOS. As Bhaskar noted, be VERY CAREFUL with this operation, as the selected volume cannot be edited or deleted during the retention period.
As a side benefit, DRU can be an effective way to protect a volume against ransomware (crypto viruses). Create a ShadowImage clone with retention set for (example) 2 weeks. Do this every week, and delete the clones as their retention period expires. This way you will always have 2 copies to revert back to should your P-Vol become unavailable (e.g. encrypted by a bad guy).
