Find out how Albelli is driving better business decisions and cost savings with automation and technological development in supply chain management

With benefits ranging from cost savings to greater agility, public cloud is now an important part of most organizations’ IT strategies. But to maximize the benefits, sometimes it helps to work with an experienced partner. Read on to find out how Albelli has partnered with Hitachi Vantara to optimize supply chain management with Oracle Cloud.

Organizations across the globe are moving more and more workflows to the cloud, with Gartner predicting the worldwide public cloud service market will grow to $331.2 billion in 20221.

Global online photo printing group Albelli is one of them. “With lower maintenance requirements, reduced costs and greater agility, cloud is the way forward for us,” confirms Alex Ashu, Head of Accounting at Albelli.

Albelli is a group of brands that provides personalized photo products, such as photo albums, wall decorations, cards, mugs and calendars to its customers worldwide.  Its brands include Albelli, BonusPrint, Monalbumphoto, Fotoknudsen, Onskefoto and Resnap.

“By automating more processes, we’ve reduced the risk of human error and increased the efficiency and effectiveness of business operations. As a result, there is a shift from data processing to strategic analysis, enabling us to challenge and steer the company accordingly, while ensuring business continuity through speed, agility and security."

The organization uses Oracle Cloud to support its group-wide finance activities, including planning and budgeting plus accounting and controlling, and was keen to optimize supply chain management. “We want to move away from processing activities and invest in analytics, where we can have a greater impact on the business,” explains Alex. “With Oracle Cloud, we can take advantage of greater automation to help us achieve this goal.”

Alex was concerned, however, that the company’s existing processes weren’t making the most of the cloud’s capabilities. He turned to Hitachi Vantara to help implement Supply Planning and Demand Management modules in Oracle Cloud. “One of the advantages of cloud services is that the features are constantly evolving. But to leverage them, we need a partner that is always up to date on the latest improvements and can share best practices from experiences with other customers,” explains Alex. “We chose Hitachi Vantara, as it has a good reputation in supply chain management and came highly recommended by the Oracle team.”

As well as rolling out the new Oracle Cloud modules, Hitachi Vantara is helping upgrade Albelli’s existing modules and providing ongoing training and knowledge transfer. The project started in July 2020 and completed a few months later in September. “We had a really tight deadline as we have to be ready in advance of our peak season, which runs annually from October to January,” says Alex. “With Hitachi Vantara’s technical knowledge and speed of delivery, we were ready to start using the new modules in the production environment in good time.”

As a result of Oracle Cloud, Albelli is able to optimize inventory management, reducing stock levels from eight weeks to between two and four weeks. “The savings we are making in inventory management will free up budget to invest in cutting edge technology, so we can improve our product offerings and boost competitive advantage,” reveals Alex.

The company now has a KPI dashboard in Oracle Cloud that helps it evaluate the performance of suppliers.   There is also a price trend analysis to review component prices as they evolve,  helping the company during periodic discussions with vendors.  Albelli has also introduced automation to its forecasting processes and the way reports are shared with the team, so it can make better purchasing decisions. “By automating more processes, we’ve reduced the risk of human error and increased the efficiency and effectiveness of business operations,” says Alex. “As a result, there is a shift from data processing to strategic analysis, enabling us to challenge and steer the company accordingly, while ensuring business continuity through speed, agility and security. In line with our original objectives, we are now a more analytical team that provides the tools for informed business decisions and adds more value to the business.”
