you can have it installed in your own rack, but i think you have to sacrifice an animal and pray to the greek gods for approval for Support to allow it. just make sure you have 6 empty racks (2 controllers racks, 4 disk racks) connected to each other in case you ever need to grow the VSP out.
The biggest problem we encountered when placing in a customer racks was getting a strong enough Rail kit. The existing rails are not configured to allow square post style racks so you cant use them. Also Be very careful because you could exceed some cable lengths depending on what rack you use. We used a chatsworth wide rack in a Nor-Cal customer and got it going but it was a nightmare to get all the CS&S sign-offs for it. I would advise your customer that although you can do it the Hitachi rack is strengthend to support the weight of the Full DKUS whereas their racks might not have the vertical strength.
Story...Story....It's time to tell a story! At a previous employer, a customer insisted on installing a mid-range system, without a lift BTW, into the top-two thirds of an old Compaq 9142 rack. The site person even had a waiver of responsibility ready for me. The bottom was only to be used for a 2u off brand battery backup unit. Two days later I got a call for the system being offline at 3am. The interface was down alright....face down with the rest of the rack which had completely collapsed on itself. lol
It's a standard 19" rack only.
Hieght - 42U
DKU size - 13U. Each chassis will hold 3 DKU
DKC size - 14U
I think you can have your own Chassis, Since I have installed in couple of usp-vm's in customer environments.
