Demonstrating a basic working knowledge of cloud computing is increasingly important. Certifications are often a way of demonstrating knowledge as well as serving as a motivation to learn something new.
The Cloud Security Alliance currently offers the Certificate of Cloud Security Knowledge (CCSK), which can be taken on-line (see https://cloudsecurityalliance.org/education/ccsk for more information).
The International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium or (ISC)2 has teamed up with the CSA to develop a new cloud computing certification that would a companion to the CISSP.
CompTIA is currently offering the following certifications:
Other certifications are being offered by Rackspace, IBM, Google, Amazon Web Services, Salesforce.com, VMware (actually virtualization), and Arcitura (CloudSchool.com).
When I first got into it, there was only the CCSK, so I went off and got that certification because it was vendor neutral. I am looking forward to see what ISC2 and CSA come up with.
