Hi All - Michelle here where I'll be joining Justin Augat, Gary Breder and the other November 4 WebTech speakers for an online Q&A session starting at 8:30am Pacific. Ask your questions here prior, during and post event!
Thanks Michelle! Great to be here
Let me kick thing off with the following question:
HDS announced a number of significant new offerings to the market this week with the “Your Cloud” launch. Can you tell us what is included?
Yes we did!
The “Your Cloud” launch marks an exciting time for HDS. This launch combines products, services, and programs that directly address many of the biggest challenges our customers are facing today as they deploy cloud solutions in their datacenter. We will get into the details shortly - on the webtech - but in summary we have brought to market 3 new offerings that provide a "no compromise" cloud solution for customers that want to BUILD their own cloud, CONSUME their cloud (as a service), or are looking for a wide range of choice from a trusted CSP
Very excited to be part of the "Your Cloud" launch here at Hitachi data Systems.
Excellent. Thanks Justin. And thanks to Gary for joining the conversation!
The launch name/theme is Your Cloud – how did you decide on this name?
This theme of “Your Cloud” was decided upon for one simple reason: We are offering the industry’s most flexible and controllable ,“no compromise” cloud for our customers’ environments. As we will discuss, in today’s cloud marketplace the notion of choice and compromise is very common as customers choose between public clouds, private clouds, and hybrid cloud offerings.
Why is this different than other “clouds” that have been launched from HDS and from other vendors?
Every vendor makes announcements about cloud. What's different from HDS is the belief that every customer should have the opportunity to maximize the benefits of cloud. But because each customer is different, the solution that will maximize the cloud benefits for each customer needs to be as unique as our each customer's situation and requirements.
This ‘Your Cloud’ announcement is different because it brings a broad set of choices that all improve the flexibility and control in a wide range of cloud solutions that match to each unique customer.
Accelerating deployment for those that want to build their own cloud now gets increased efficiency of operation. For those that want the public cloud experience of agility and cloud economics, now can achieve that behind their own firewall. And finally, for those that want to complement their private cloud with cloud services from a provider – or to shift entirely to a provider – now have more trusted choice in cloud services powered by Hitachi Data Center and delivered by our cloud service provider partners.
Thanks for the response, Gary.
Now, talking about UCP - UCP was launched a few years ago, what is different with this new version?
This launch extends our Cloud strategy -- a strategy that we have been building on for several years. It comprises the following elements - technology, services, elastic financial models, and partnerships...together, this offers a truly flexible solution for customers from an ownership, management, location, and resource perspective
Thanks Justin. One last question on UCP,
UCP has native integration with vCenter and SystemCenter. Does this mean I don’t have to use a separate application to manage the virtual and physical environment?
Correct -- native integration means that the customer can manage all they way down through the virtual layer to the physical layer (server, network, storage)...this is a huge value to customers who want to deploy a cloud solution, but also don't want to learn to use new software platforms. We are simply extending the capabilities they are already familiar with
Shifting the conversation to Compute as a Service...
Is Compute as a Service a new public cloud?
Hitachi Cloud – Compute as a Service is not a public cloud. It is every bit a private cloud – installed inside a customer’s data center, using isolated and dedicated infrastructure for that customer. The difference is that this managed solution has the flexibility and elastic financial model just like a public cloud. Most people like the public cloud for those two reasons, but are a bit uncomfortable with multi-tenant environments, located who knows where, that use public internet connections – at least for business and mission critical workloads. Hitachi Cloud – Compute as a Service eliminates that compromise of public cloud, and the compromise of private cloud. It’s the best of both!
Could you tell me a little more about what is included in this service and how it is priced?
